West Bengal has completed the setting up of 554 clusters in the state. About 292 of these are for MSMEs while 262 are in the handloom and khadi segment. The state has clusters in diverse products like brass and bell metal, plastic, jewelry, nalen gur and muslin handloom, rice mill, zari zardosi, dokra, rakhi, kantha stitch handloom, cashew nuts, bus body, madur handloom, refractory bricks, cardamom, turmeric, ginger, mulberry silk, art and craft, fan, textile, LED light, baluchari, sital pati and mekhla, wooden furniture, Chaau mask etc. In view of the fact that West Bengal has close to 89 lakh MSME units that employ around 1.36 crore people, and the state is also strategically located as the Gateway to the ASEAN and the South Asian countries, the scope for participating in regional value chains for MSMEs looks promising.
