The Ministry of Commerce and Industries has decided to set up a separate Export Council for Medical Devices under the Department of Pharmaceuticals. In 2021-22, India exported Rs. 23,766 crore worth of medical devices up from previous year Rs. 19,736 crore. The export council will help exporters in promoting their products in international markets, through various promotional activities including organising and participating in international trade fairs, buyer-seller meets. The council is likely to accelerate the exports and manufacturing growth of the medical devices sector and will help exporters promoting their products in international markets. In India’s quest to be one of the Top 5 preferred supplier base of medical devices worldwide, experts have opined that the measure will provide coordinated inter-ministerial policy measures which will help in unleashing the huge export and investment potential of over Rs 80,000 crore for manufacturing medical devices for the global market.
