The Indian Railways is the largest rail network in Asia and globally India, is just behind the US, Russia, and China, and has the fourth-largest railway network in the world. The Indian Railways had 9,141 freight trains and 13,452 passenger trains as of FY21. Its overall route network measured 68,103 km as of FY21. In the years 2020–21, Indian Railways electrified more parts than ever before, totalling 6,015 Route Kilometres (RKM). Compared to the previous seven years (2014–21), electrification increased by more than 5 times in our nation. Indian railroads will be entirely powered by electricity by 2024. As of July 10, 2022, Indian Railways’ income totalled 5.7 billion US dollars. As of July 10, 2022, the overall passenger revenue was $1.45 billion USD. This year the railways announced a bold initiative to provide contemporary technology and enhance travel by privatizing 5% of Mail/Express trains across 12 clusters.
