IT & ITES - #SectorUpdates
The data centre industry in India is currently worth USD 5.6 billion dollars, according to a report by Anarock and Binswanger. Presently, India has 138 data centres overall spanning 11 million square feet and having 737 MW of IT capacities. Currently, around 57% of this capacity is located in Mumbai and Chennai. Another 45 new data centres are expected to come up by 2025. India is at the cusp of a data centre evolution. The Covid-19 outbreak created an unprecedented crisis which has propelled the data centre business forward, providing an unexpected tailwind. In the last couple of years, technology adoption and digitisation across the sectors were fast-tracked globally and India also leapfrogged by at least a decade. As of FY2025, the country’s total estimated data centre demand is expected to be 2,100 MW, with a 35:65 mix between hyperscalers and enterprises.
