Horticulture - #SectorUpdates
Horticulture plays significant role in doubling the farmer’s income. Union Agriculture Ministry has thus allocated Rs 2250 Crore for improvements of the sector in 2021-22. Horticulture market is currently valued at INR 22,516 Billion and is expected to grow to INR 41,148.7 Billion by 2027 exhibiting a CAGR of 10.5% during 2022-2027. Horticulture sector can stimulate and sustain growth as an organized industry with strong forward and backward linkages. Horticulture contributes 6% to GDP adding up to 1/3 of the whole agricultural output of the country. Agriculture and allied sector, that includes horticulture, has created employment to 42% of total work force. Centre has sponsored Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) for holistic growth of the sector. Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW), Government of India has come up with a registered society namely National Bee Board (NBB) aiming to develop beekeeping by promoting scientific beekeeping in the country.
