Forestry - #SectorUpdates

Forestry sector is majorly dependent on commercial activities that depends on wood fiber. According to the Forest Survey Report recorded during 2019 – 21 states an increase of 1,540 square kilometers, most of which is contributed by Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Karnataka and Jharkhand. To be noted that India’s total forest cover was 21.71% of total geographical area of the country in 2019, currently it is 24.62% and targeting to bring 33 per cent of its geographical area under forest cover. Total Mangrove cover in India is 4,992 sq km. of which three highest contributing states are Odisha, Maharashtra & Karnataka. The mentioned states are attracting potential number of tourists that will be generating employment and income as well. Looking into such huge expansion of forest, carbon emissions have reduced . Government of India has introduced Green India Plan under which $10 billion would be spent over the next 10 years to improve the quality of forests and increase the forest cover.
